DNV Renewables (USA) Inc. is seeking a Senior Wind Turbine Engineer for our Boston, Massachusetts or downtown Seattle, Washington offices. This position supports the Turbine Engineering team’s broad range of activities, with a focus on providing engineering consulting and risk management advice on wind turbine technologies. Primary activities will include project management, technology assessment and qualification, design concept review, failure root cause analysis, operations and maintenance optimization, turbine condition assessments and problem resolution support for wind turbine owners and operators. All activities will include writing reports and giving presentations to our manufacturer and operator clients as well as at industry conferences. RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Conduct design analysis of wind turbines and sub-systems including gearing, generators and bearings
• Design reviews, due diligence and other independent engineering functions
• Stress and fatigue calculations
• Create and design protocol for testing
• Test and simulation data analysis
• Assess manufacturing processes
• On-site and remote manufacturing quality audits
• Produce cost-effectiveness studies
• Research activities in wind turbine technology
• Prepare proposals
• Provide timely client communications
• Execute project scope items, anticipating project issues and developing appropriate resolutions
• Monitor project cost and schedule
• Share knowledge and best practice across DNV unit
• Demonstrate interest and ability to continuously learn

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant engineering discipline required
• Five years related work experience, including direct engineering experience with machinery including gearing, generators and/or bearings
• Wind energy experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
• Knowledge of turbo-machinery engineering challenges gained through work experience and/or formal training
• Root-cause analysis experience and/or formal training
• Ability to read, understand and critically review:
• Wind turbine drive train designs and design concepts
• Engineering drawings, FEA results, loads simulation/validation results, test plans, test reports and other relevant documents
• Warranty agreements and other contractual documents related to major equipment and service procurement
• Ability to learn quickly, multi-task, and be adaptable to changing priorities
• Ability to specify, procure and manage subcontracted technical services
• Self motivated, with excellent attention to detail
• Ability to work effectively and professionally with diverse people – clients, vendors, and co-workers
• Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency in MS Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, etc.)
• Accountable for individual tasks and projects while also able to work well in a team environment
• Valid driver’s license
• Interest in field work and ability to travel for periods of one to two weeks at a time, domestically or internationally

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
• Normal office environment with moderate noise levels, occasional lifting of up to 25 lbs., regular walking, sitting, bending, twisting, standing and reaching.
• Ability to perform consistent work on PC.
• Physical ability to safely climb towers up to 350 feet in height and work at heights and in confined spaces.
• Regular (typically less than 25% of work time) domestic and international travel to client sites and offices required. Occasional travel to conferences. Orientation to the job may include field work for several months with up to 50% travel.
