General: The RE Store was founded in 1993 by the non-profit organization RE Sources for Sustainable Communities, based out of Bellingham, WA, to address the growing problem of wasteful disposal of useable building materials, most of which were buried in the local landfill. The organization was able to focus on the mission of saving waste by forming under the non-profit, supporting the public's growing interest in green building and reuse.

The RE Store now provides a practical alternative to dumping building materials. In 2010, our efforts saved a total of 4,503,000 pounds or 2,251.5 tons of building supplies - the equivalent weight of 5 Boeing 747s or 59 semi-trailers.

By comparison, 200,000 buildings are demolished each year in the United States. The demolition of a modest 2,000 square foot house generates up to 127 tons of trash. The RE Store can reuse up to 50% of that material and recycle another 49%, leaving a mere 1% to end up in a landfill or incinerator.

As co-manager you serve as a representative of RE Sources and The RE Store. You are responsible for sustaining the mission of the organization and providing customer service.

We are currently looking for a qualified candidate to co-manage our Seattle store. The ideal candidate will have retail experience coupled with strong organizational / management skills.

Qualifications (desirable but not necessary):

Bachelor degree in business, marketing, environmental science or related field, and/or 5 years progressive experience in retail sales, customer service, and managing staff.
Strong personnel management and staff development skills.
Strong knowledge of the value and uses of a wide range of building materials.
Understanding of the local business community and local re-use/recycling programs.
Ability to make decisions in a fast paced, sometimes stressful, environment.
Commitment to the goals and mission of The RE Store. Proficient experience with Microsoft Office.Ability to work a minimum of 32 hours per week. Valid first aid certification, or ability to obtain within 90 days of hire.
Valid Washington State driver license and clean driving record.
Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Responsibilities:
Personnel Management:
Support the hiring process for new store staff.
Work as part of The RE Store management team to ensure good communication at all levels to increase efficiency to meet both diversion and financial goals.
Work with RE Store director and management team to develop annual budget.
Responsible for the safety of staff and customers. Ensure safety plan is followed.
Ensure excellent customer service is provided by all staff as outlined in the training manual.
Write staff schedules, and manage vacation requests Model excellent time and attendance behaviors, ensuring the staff practices them as well.
Facilitate project list for staff each day and maintain staff motivation and urgency.
Ensure all store employees and volunteers are adequately trained for assigned tasks.
Make sure time sheets are turned in on time, filled out correctly and submitted.
Attend staff and management meetings when requested. Schedule and facilitate monthly staff meetings and weekly training/team meetings, ensuring all staff is present.
Perform staff reviews and evaluations as scheduled.
Work closely with Seattle Operations Manager and other managers to coordinate all activities.
Other tasks as assigned by Seattle Operations Manager.

Material Flow:
Keep materials flowing through the store utilizing merchandising, sales and price incentives.
Collaborate with the field crew to coordinate logistics for incoming material.
Uphold policies regarding purchase of materials, holds and sales with customers.
Work with management team towards continual development of a list of customers who want specific items that can be efficiently sold from job sites or delivered directly. Coordinate with field staff to increase field sales

Financial Tracking:
Responsible for closing and balancing register.
Utilize the financial spreadsheet accurately and report to bookkeeper with any needed information.
Send monthly financial reports to the RE Store Director.

Accountability:
Reports to the Seattle Operations Manager.
