Location of Work: Magnuson Park in Northeast Seattle. Seattle area field trip sites as selected by Seattle Audubon Society. Meetings and/or training may also be held at the Seattle Audubon office, 8050 35th Ave. NE, Seattle, WA 98115.

Purpose: Support Seattle Audubon Society in offering top-notch educational programs to youth through Nature Day Camps.

Qualifications: Requires BA/BS in science, education, or related field, and experience working with children. Camp and/or teaching experience preferred. Background in art, painting, writing highly desirable. First Aid and CPR certification required by start of work.

Commitment: Full time, seasonal. Full-season is 11 weeks*, June 17th – August 30th, (one week of training/set up, 10 weeks of camp, then clean up. This includes breaking down camp at the end of the summer).
*Naturalist staff may be asked to take 2-5 days off during the season if enrollment is low; however, no more than 5 days will be requested during a summer season.
Hours from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday through Friday during camp. One or two staff members have option to co-lead overnight Teen Trekker Camping Trips**.
Compensation: $12.50-13.50 per hour DOE
Position Summary:

Teach age-appropriate ecology, cultural, and art education activities to children between the ages of 5 and 15. Groups generally range in size from 8 to 12. Lead educational lessons, games, songs and team-building activities with your assigned field groups to foster a fun and respectful camp spirit.

Supervise campers while on field trips, conduct regular head counts and assist in loading and unloading of vehicles.

Assist with curriculum and systems development, create activity materials, and help train other interns and volunteers. Act as a mentor to volunteer high school students, Junior Naturalists, assigned to your group. Assist with camp set up, breakdown and cleanup according to weekly theme. Treat materials and natural specimens appropriately; assist with clean up, inventory and packing as needed.

Maintain appropriate camper conduct; deal effectively with inappropriate behaviors and other problems. Monitor camper and staff safety and comfort; assist with health care and First Aid as needed; respond to accidents and emergencies appropriately.

**Optional – Co-lead Teen Camping trips that are five-day sessions that include two days of day camp, and a three-day/two-night camping trip. Work hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM while on site, with additional hours while on the camping trips. There are 2 trips total; one trip is for girls only. Must be 25 years old by the first trip and have a valid driver’s license.
