Serve your community, improve habitat for fish and wildlife and build your own path to the future by joining the Washington Conservation Corps/Ameriorps. The WCC is hiring four environmental stewardship crews based in King County.

WCC Members work on a six person crew to perform habitat enhancement and salmon recovery projects throughout King County. Projects involve installing native plants along creeks, streams and rivers, controlling invasive weeds, improving wetlands, building fish habitat, fencing stream buffers, installing irrigation systems and watering plantings. Be prepared to get dirty. WCC Members work outdoors in streams and wetlands in all types of weather and on variable terrain. The work is physically demanding and the weather can be extreme, but the experiences are invaluable, the outcomes are rewarding and the friendships are priceless.

WCC provides the perfect opportunity to learn by doing and to develop your resume. WCC Members receive a variety of on the job and classroom training. Learn Northwest native plants, noxious weeds, salmon ecology and habitat restoration techniques. Learn to use power tools like brushblades, field mowers, augers, tillers, winches and chainsaws. Get hands-on experience working in the environmental field. In addition to excellent on-the-job training, WCC Members attend a series of paid trainings throughout the year. Courses offered range from Wilderness First Responder, Wildland Firefighting and Hazardous Materials Response to Wetland Delineation, Ethnobotany, GPS/GIS, Search and Rescue and Watershed Restoration.

King County WCC Members work four 10-hour days (7am-5:30pm), Monday through Thursday, and meet daily at a compound in Renton located near Renton Technical College. They earn state minimum wage (currently $9.19 per hour) and receive an AmeriCorps Education Award of $5,550 (scholarship) upon successful completion of one year of service (1700 hours). Basic medical benefits are provided and educational loan forbearance is available.

-Must be 18-25 years of age on date of hire
-Must be strong-willed with ability to handle harsh environmental settings and strenuous working conditions
