Position: Mercer Slough Educator

Status: Part Time; Temporary; Non-Exempt, $14.00/hour
February 2016 - August 2016

Department: Mercer Slough

Division: Science & Education

Purpose: To teach awareness, understanding, appreciation, and a sense of stewardship for the natural world, through science-based environmental education programs.

Key Job Responsibilities:
1.ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE EDUCATION: Inspires stewardship and respect of the natural environment by: •Teaching Summer Camps, Wetland Field Study Programs, Scout Programs, B’earthday Programs, and other programs as assigned
•Modeling respect and appreciation for the environment and the participants
•Teaching to the themes and objectives of each program using the curriculum provided
•Sharing excitement, wonder and enthusiasm for the program and the natural world with all participants

2.CUSTOMER SERVICE (internal and external): Ensures a pleasurable experience for all participants by: •Following through with all paperwork associated with each program
•Responding to participants concerns as quickly as possible
•Communicating in a clear manner with all participants (adults and children)

3.PROGRAM OPERATIONS: Ensures smooth operations and professional manner in delivery of programs by: •Arriving on time for program and adhering to the program schedule
•Daily cleaning and upkeep of program material
•Reporting any program or maintenance needs to the Site Supervisor

4.EDUCATIONAL PLANNING: Assists in the improvement of programming by: •Giving feedback on curriculum
•Adapting and expanding upon the curriculum provided
•Taking on special projects, as assigned
•Contributing to seasonal trainings

5.MENTORING (Not all teachers will have mentoring responsibilities): Supports increased awareness, professionalism and stewardship by high-school interns who are learning the fundamentals of water quality testing and teaching local elementary school students by: •Planning and leading weekly intern meetings
•Demonstrating scientific testing techniques and leading monthly water quality monitoring
•Coordinating and communicating with elementary teachers about classroom component of program
•Supervising interns during program time

6.Other duties as assigned
