Washington Trails Association is a nonprofit leader in constituent engagement–from its interactive website that serves 3 million unique annual visitors, to its growing base of over 13,000 member households, to its volunteer trail program, which is the largest of its kind in the nation. Contributions from individuals account for approximately $1.7 million in annual revenue.

WTA seeks a self-motivated, pro-active and tech savvy professional to join its development team. The Membership Manager is responsible for leading WTA’s efforts to build and maintain an active and engaged membership base. The Manager will accomplish this by maintaining a high level of membership satisfaction, accurately tracking member and donor records, ensuring timely acknowledgment of contributions, analyzing membership growth patterns and recommending appropriate recruitment strategies. The Membership Manager will develop, implement and analyze strategies to convert WTA constituents into members/donors, and collaborate with the development team to implement and evaluate fundraising campaigns.

This is a full-time exempt position that reports to the Development Director. The ideal candidate is passionate about the outdoors and eager to work as a member of a dynamic fundraising team.

Member Acquisition
• Develops and implements a strategic action plan with budgets, objectives, timelines and assessment components to convert WTA constituents into members/donors, with an emphasis on WTA's growing online community
• Plans and devises strategies to optimize WTA’s multi-channel (mail, email, online, etc.) membership acquisition efforts
• Develops and implements annual Spring Member Drive - multi-channel
• With communications team, creates, tests and implements year-round new member conversion funnels focused on list-building, welcome e-mail series, web and social traffic conversion
• With communications team, oversees design of membership and development pages on the wta.org website to maximize conversion and provide the best possible donor experience
• Manages wta.org membership and development pages on an ongoing basis

Member/Donor Services
• Oversees WTA’s growing membership program
• Ensures ongoing integrity of member/donor data in Salesforce
• Oversees gift processing, ensuring all contributions are processed accurately and acknowledged in a timely manner
• Supervises the Membership Associate
• Serves as the development team lead on WTA’s Salesforce database team
• Oversees analysis of member and donor data and trends to aid in fundraising growth
• Ensures member/donor benefit fulfillment; responsible for mailing/emailing Washington Trails magazine (6x per year)
• With communications team and IT team, collaborates on developing online member/donor portal
• Engages members and donors in order to foster community and upgrade annual giving
• Coordinates month-end reconciliation of Salesforce and QuickBooks

Campaign Implementation
• Collaborates with development team in executing campaigns including but not limited to: member/donor renewals; special appeals and stewardship pieces
• Creates segmentation plans; runs reports and refines lists
• Oversees direct mail implementation, working with printer, mail house and/or in-house resources to ensure all fundraising mailings are completed
• Oversees e-mail communications for the development department using Exact Target or similar programs. Includes appeals, renewals, stewardship, invitations
• Negotiates and coordinates directly with vendors including printers, mail houses, list brokers
• Tracks campaign data, creates reports and analyzes results

• Supports development team in executing Hike-a-Thon, WTA's signature fundraising event
• Maintains up-to-date knowledge of WTA programs and organizational priorities
• Actively participates in team meetings, organization-wide meetings, work planning, peer evaluations, staff training and retreats. Participates in special events as requested.
• Maintains documentation for data entry protocol and job duties best practices

Job skills and Personal Traits preferred:
• Minimum of 3 years direct experience and successful track record in member and donor services
• Experience tracking donors and campaigns and reporting on fundraising results using a donor database, preferably Salesforce
• Experience in direct channel marketing via integrated campaigns for e-mail, Web, print
• Ability to create efficiencies and build investment in systems
• Project management skills and strong organizational skills, including attention to detail. Ability to work well in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment, and manage multiple projects with competing demands while maintaining a commitment to excellence
• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Strong customer service skills.
• Cultural competency experience and demonstrated ability to work with people of diverse races, ages, genders, abilities and economic backgrounds. Ability to work with multiple stakeholders at all organizational levels, internally and externally.
• Proactively seeks out and leverages emerging technologies and best practices
• High ethical standards and ability to maintain confidential donor information.
• Supervisory experience preferred
• Strong computer skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office and knowledge of HTML editor and ExactTarget (or other email marketing software)
• Knowledge of Adobe PhotoShop, InDesign (or other design software) a plus.
• Ability to work a flexible schedule for events scheduled on evenings and weekends
• A strong commitment to WTA’s mission

The compensation range for this position is $47,000 to $52,000 annually. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and long-term disability insurance; retirement plan; transit pass; and holiday, vacation and sick leave.
