POSITION TITLE: Marketing and Communications Associate

REPORTS TO: Director of External Relations

SUMMARY: Writing marketing material, press releases, web site content, newsletter, social media and other institutional publications. Manages some public relations activities and supports director of external relations

SCOPE: Maintain institutional publications and press

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.)
• Manages the writing and updating of all marketing collateral that is produced electronically and printed.
• Project manages printing of materials.
• Responsible for writing press releases and sending out to press contacts.
• Website editor; manages all existing and new content to the website. Includes managing and maintaining content from students and alumni.
• Coordinates public relations activities locally and nationally
• Works with Director of External Relations in responding to PR and earned media opportunities.
• Manages writing and editing of monthly newsletter
• Manages BGI blog, twitter and facebook; helps coordinate contribution and ensures quality assurance of content.
• Works cross departmentally with development and academics to ensure consistent voice in publications.
• Works with Director of External Relations and multi-stakeholder group in developing marketing strategy.

• At least 3 years of marketing communications writing experience in an academic or non-profit setting.
• Bachelors required, Masters preferred
• Experience with public relations is highly desired
• A deep understanding of sustainability movement and the BGI or similar program.
• A commitment to sustainability
• A very high attention to detail, organization and follow-up
• A natural ability for establishing interpersonal rapport and relating to individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures
• Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data and to use independent judgment where appropriate
• Commitment to continuous quality improvement and customer service
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
• Honesty, trustworthiness and a clear sense of fair-play
• Strong initiative and self-motivated work ethic
• An ability to work independently and as part of a team
• A sense of humor
• An ability to juggle multiple, important priorities
• Comfort in a fast-paced, loosely structured environment
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, information systems (ability to use systems for monitoring files, records, and targets), internet and email
• Basic understanding of web editing tools and HTML
• Ability to keep information confidential as required
