Lead Seasonal Trail Technicians will be responsible for leading a small trail construction crew, building trails in the Mountains to Sound Greenway. Work will be primarily strenuous physical labor, outside, in all weather, building new trail. As a member of the Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust Stewardship Program, you'll have the opportunity to work with a highly successful team in an energetic, productive and fast-paced environment, and will be given an excellent opportunity to strengthen skills relating to public natural lands management.

Position Begins June, 2013

Position Description

- Temporary/seasonal, full-time, 4-month lead trails technician position.
- Crew is based from Lake Sammamish State Park in Issaquah, WA and works on surrounding public land.
- 10 hour workday, spike camps: 8 days on/6 days off (June-September).
- High physical demand; lead technicians will work in variable weather conditions, in remote locations, on difficult terrain and under physically demanding circumstances.

Primary Responsibilities

- Lead a small, dedicated crew in the safe production of a technically demanding, new trail construction project. Work includes: 1) falling and bucking trees, 2) hand digging and excavation, 3) operating small machinery, 4) stone and timber work, and, 5) all other manners of labor necessary for the purposes of new trail construction.
- Lead trail technicians will live and work outside in all weather conditions for eight days at a time.

Required Qualifications

- Positive attitude, good communication skills, aptitude for problem solving and ability to represent the program in a professional manner.
- Proven ability to work and live outside in inclement weather for extended periods of time.
- Proven leadership experience and accountability for productivity in a high expectation work environment.
- Experience with new trail construction of a highly technical nature.
- Ability to work independently and with a team and to plan and prioritize multiple tasks.
- Clean driving record.
- Transportation to Lake Sammamish State Park (transportation to worksite is provided).

Desired Qualifications

- Wilderness First Responder or equivalent.
- Experience with trail layout and design, technical stone and timber construction and rigging operations.
- Experience in production construction.

Salary / Benefits
- Salary is $16.00 per hour.
- Professional experience with new trail construction.

Program Mission and Challenge

The Greenway Stewardship Program provides long-term stewardship of public lands in the Mountains to Sound Greenway, which consists of over 900,000 acres of public lands along Interstate 90 from Seattle to Central Washington. The Greenway Trust works on federal, state, county, city and private lands completing tree plantings, invasive plant removal, riparian restoration, logging road removal, trail maintenance and construction, and a host of other stewardship activities. The involvement and education of thousands of volunteers yearly is a major component of the program.
