POSITION TITLE: Habitat Restoration Technician – Temporary
START DATE: A.S.A.P.
END DATE: September 2015
RATE: $14 / hour
LOCATION: office in Lake Stevens, WA, restoration sites located in King and Snohomish
Counties
CLOSING DATE: Open until filled

POSITION SUMMARY: Perform various tasks both independently and under the supervision
of Sound Salmon staff to support implementation and monitoring of salmon habitat restoration
projects. This position will require the technician to work 40 hours per week at various project
locations and tasks. This position works M-Th with some weekend work required and is
primarily field-based with some office work. For more information on Sound Salmon Solutions

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
 Remove/control invasive and noxious weeds from project sites. This physically demanding
work requires ability to safely operate equipment (walk-behind field mower, gas-powered brush
cutters), use hand tools, apply herbicide under the direct supervision of a licensed applicator,
and clean, maintain, and repair tools and equipment.
 Collect, manage, and summarize field data pertaining to riparian vegetation. Identification of
western Washington native trees and shrubs, and non-native, invasive weeds required. This
work may utilize Trimble GPS receiver.
 Assist with construction of habitat restoration projects, such as placement of wood in or near
streams, culvert installation, soil erosion control measures, and installation of livestock fences.
 Maintain a daily record of activities (field journal) and prepare reports on restoration site
conditions, and types and duration of restoration actions, as requested.
 Communicate verbally and in writing with staff, landowners, partner organizations, and the
general public about salmon recovery efforts and restoration work in general.

QUALIFICATIONS:
 BA/BS in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management or closely related field or 3
years of experience in a similar position.
 Perform physically demanding manual labor outdoors, at remote locations, on difficult and
hazardous terrain in all types of weather.
 Lift up to 50 pounds, work 10 hours per day, and walk up to 4 miles per day on uneven terrain.
 Safely operate hand and power tools and work in the vicinity of heavy equipment.
 Collect data pertaining to vegetation, streams, and/or mapping with Trimble GPS.
 Knowledge and skills related to western Washington native plant and weed identification.
 Knowledge and skills related to Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, etc.)
 Operate a manual transmission and 4-wheel drive pickup truck.
 WSDA Aquatic Herbicide license holders preferred.
