Position Dates: October 1st, 2010 to August 15th, 2011
Wages: $1050 monthly living stipend (before taxes), $5,350 educational award at end of service

Garden-Raised Bounty (GRuB) is a grassroots non-profit organization dedicated to nourishing community by empowering people and growing good food. We create educational and job-training opportunities that grow inspired, self-confident and community-minded youth. We help low-income families to help themselves by building raised-bed gardens at their homes. We work in Thurston & Mason counties.

Position Title : Cultivating Youth Employment Program Counselor
Hours: 40 hours/week, 9am – 5:30pm; Tuesday - Saturday
Primary Responsibilities
This position will work with Thurston County youth (ages 16-18) who are active participants in GRuB’s Cultivating Youth Employment Program as well as community volunteers of all ages. The mission of the Cultivating Youth Program is to empower youth to create positive change in their lives and in society as they lead projects that specifically address issues of hunger and poverty. This position will work with our Cultivating Youth Program Director and Farm Manager in staffing/facilitation of program activities including sustainable farming, community education, and volunteer coordination. In addition, the position will also be responsible for facilitating successful youth involvement in our Kitchen Garden Project, which builds free raised-bed vegetable gardens for low-income people.

Major responsibilities include:
 Mentoring 10 - 30 program participants as they work at our farm and in the community
 Recruiting new youth for our 2010 summer program, as well as staffing our 2010 summer program
 General case-management that supports our youth in leading healthy, meaningful lives.
 Hands-on sustainable agriculture work
 Building raised-bed vegetable gardens for low-income families (as well as supporting additional Kitchen Garden Project activities)

Position Title: Backyard Garden Coordinator
Hours: 40 hours/week, 9am – 5pm; Monday – Saturday with additional evening and weekend hours
Primary Responsibilities
GRuB’s Kitchen Garden Project (KGP) connects low-income people to resources they need to grow fresh food. We work alongside volunteers and new gardeners to construct dozens of backyard and community gardens each year. Through mentoring, workshops, and neighborhood organizing, we improve food security, self-reliance, and overall health of low-income people. The AmeriCorps member will work with college interns, volunteers, and youth involved in our employment program to ensure that 80 backyard gardens and 5 institutional gardens are built in Thurston and Mason counties over this next year.

Responsibilities will include:
 Overall managing of backyard garden construction including site visit and building calendar
 Conducting pre and post season site visits and builds with gardeners
 Organizing donations and community events
 Coordinating garden mentors and other resources for new gardeners
 Planning and leading community workshops
 Executing administrative tasks including answering phones, data entry, and seasonal communications
 Recruiting/training/mentoring of KGP team members (including student interns, volunteers, and youth)

Qualifications for both positions:
• 25 years old or younger, high school equivalency
• Mature, outgoing, comfortable working in a group
• Strong experience & rapport with youth
• Strong communication, teaching, & facilitation skills
• Positive attitude, works well with others
• Gardening/farming experience preferred
• Computer literate (MS Office Suite)
