Fermata Consulting is seeking a Green Building Consultant to support projects based in Seattle, WA and Hawaii. Fermata has developed unique, effective techniques to promote the development of sustainable buildings of all types and sizes (from chicken coop to military base). We are a firm with a joyful attitude and a strong work ethic. We value life-work balance, meeting deadlines, and riding our bikes. Our projects are split between Washington State and the Hawaiian islands and include multi-family housing, lower ed and higher ed schools, libraries, fire stations, courthouses, military buildings, commercial office spaces, and many more.

Description of Position:
The candidate will provide Green Building Consulting Services as an independent contractor on a temporary, part-time basis and is based in either Seattle, WA or Honolulu, HI. The goal is to develop this into a permanent, full-time position.

The candidate will provide project management from eco-charette to delivery of the green building certificate using an integrated design process. The candidate will be efficient in organizing, documenting and finalizing projects to ensure our clients are pleased with our results and feel they have been provided a valuable service. A unique blend of leadership, organizational and technical skills are required, along with creativity, a can-do/positive attitude, flexibility, and self-motivation. A sincere interest in the advancement of sustainable building design is imperative to Fermata’s team members.

• Assist design and engineering teams with sustainable design strategies and technologies for buildings and sites
• Cultivate working relationships and rapport with clients
• Prepare and conduct sustainability workshops with clients, users and consultant teams to determine tangible goals during pre-design phase
• Effectively communicate environmental certification program requirements and progress to project teams
• Take responsibility for driving projects to completion as well as keeping the team informed of progress and outstanding issues related to each project
• Prepare technical reports, tools, calculators, presentations and memos
• Attend project design, coordination and site meetings
• Perform research of green building strategies and technologies for both internal purposes and client needs
• Must be able and willing to travel by plane up to six times per year
• Oversee entire LEED, Living Building Challenge, CHPS, and other certification processes from Pre-Design through Construction Administration to post occupancy
• Participate in and lead post-occupancy studies, reports, and workshops
• Complete LEED-online and GreenGrade documentation, use industry tools such as LEED User, etc to support the documentation process

Education, Experience, and Other Requirements * :
• Degree in Architecture or similar. Our particular niche in the field is providing green building consulting from an architecture perspective
• 5+ years of professional experience with demonstrated advancement in sustainable building design and construction
• Current LEED Accredited Professional credentials: AP and /or BD+C
• Experience submitting design and construction applications to LEED online V2.2 & 3 from start to finish
• Experience with GreenGrade a plus
• Sustainable Building Advisor certification or equivalent training required
• Knowledge or experience with multiple green building protocols such as Living Building Challenge, Built Green, Passive House Certification, BOMA 360, Green Building Initiative, etc.
• Familiarity with WA Sustainable Schools Protocol (WSSP) and Hawaii Collaborative for High Performance Schools (HI-CHPS)
• Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced, fun environment
• Ability to thrive on sometimes highly tedious tasks!
• Familiarity with other related industry standards such as ASHRAE standards
• Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, MS Office programs
• A strong graphic sensibility is a plus
• Proficiency in Autocad and/or Revit a plus, but not required
• Proficiency with understanding the design and construction phases, drawing sets, spec development, etc.
• Ability to work virtually while staying in direct contact with Fermata’s Principal through email, phone, and project management applications

• Facilitation experience
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Must have an exceptionally pleasant, supportive, and patient personality. Our work often involves supporting our clients in navigating very difficult conversations and tedious documentation tasks. We always do this with a smile on our face and without a tone of environmental righteousness
