Washington Trails Association (WTA) preserves, enhances, and promotes hiking opportunities in Washington state through collaboration, education, advocacy and volunteer trail maintenance. We are committed to leaving a rich legacy of trails and wild lands for future generations to enjoy. WTA is a nonprofit leader in constituent engagement–from its interactive website that serves over 9 million annual visitors, to its growing base of over 13,000 members, to its volunteer trail program, which is the largest of its kind in the nation with over 4,400 volunteers annually. Contributions from individuals account for approximately 70% of WTA’s annual revenue.

WTA seeks a self-motivated professional who is passionate about the outdoors and excited to join a dynamic fundraising team. The Fundraising and Events Assistant will be a key contributor to the success of Washington Trails Association’s fundraising program. The Assistant will be responsible for data entry to ensure accurate gift processing, timely production of donor communications, and assisting with major WTA events.

The Fundraising & Events Assistant will provide significant support for WTA’s annual peer-to-peer fundraiser, Hike-a-Thon. In Hike-a-Thon 2015 alone, 289 participants hiked over 11,100 miles and raised more than $120,000 for WTA and our programs. This position will also support [email protected], our 50th anniversary celebration in September of 2016. Both of these unique events will provide great opportunities for the right candidate to learn about nonprofit fundraising events and help execute a once-in-a-generation celebration of WTA’s long history in the community.

The ideal candidate has a flexible, proactive attitude and will contribute to the overall success of WTA by welcoming requests for support, tracking and meeting approaching deadlines, and suggesting improvements to systems and processes. This is an entry level position for someone interested in learning about fundraising and event planning in the nonprofit sector. This is a full-time, non-exempt position that reports to the Annual Fund & Events Manager and works closely with the entire development team.

Major Responsibilities:
• Accurately records and maintains event participant and donor records in the Salesforce database (including entering checks and online donations, workplace giving pledges and distributions, in-kind gifts, tribute gifts, store purchases, and others as directed).
• Performs routine database maintenance tasks with a high degree of accuracy and efficiency.
• Ensures donor data integrity.
• Implements gift acknowledgement process, and ensures timely delivery of tax receipts to event participants, donors and members.
• Provides customer service to event participants, members and donors via email and phone.
• Coordinates prize packages, promotional material distribution, and awards for special events.
• Provides on-site support for events such as hikes, trail work parties and annual celebration receptions as assigned.
• Assists with the execution of seasonal fundraising campaigns as assigned, such as direct mail and email campaigns.

• Assists with other WTA events as needed (includes occasional nights and weekends).
• Attends and participates in WTA, trainings, retreats, and other program events as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.

Job skills, experience and personal traits preferred:
• At least one year of work experience, preferably in an office setting. Events or customer service experience a plus.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• High ethical standards and ability to manage confidential donor information.
• Must be well-organized, detail-oriented, and have strong critical thinking skills.
• Ability to follow processes and procedures to ensure accurate data entry and a positive experience for members, donors and event participants.
• Ability to engage and work with multiple stakeholders at all organizational levels, both internal and external to the organization.
• Respect for diversity in a team-oriented culture.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment and as a member of a dynamic team.
• Strong computer skills, including proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel. Experience with Salesforce a plus.
• Available to work occasional evenings and weekends for special events as needed.
• A strong commitment to WTA’s mission and passion for the outdoors.

Compensation: Compensation starts at $15 per hour. Benefits include medical, dental, vision and long-term disability insurance; retirement plan; transit pass; and holiday, vacation and sick leave.
