Job Description:
The Field Director is a key part of the staff leadership team and helps to develop organizational and program strategy. The Field Director is responsible for building public support for our agenda; developing messages; running the grassroots component of legislative, issue-based, and ballot measure campaigns; conducting educational outreach; organizing coalition partners around our priorities; directing volunteers and interacting with the media. This is a senior staff position. Flexible schedule with some night and weekend work required. Modest monthly travel also required.

About TCC
Transportation Choices Coalition is a statewide non-profit advocacy organization working to expand transportation choices for everyone. Based in Seattle, we promote improving the quality of life for all Washingtonians by providing the state's residents with a better mix of transportation choices including bus and rail transit, intercity trains, carpools, vanpools, ferries, bicycle and pedestrian investments and commute trip reduction strategies.
Field Director Responsibilities:
• Conduct education and outreach activities in counties throughout Washington.
• Organize and perform outreach for Transportation 101 programs throughout the year.
• Organize Transportation Choices’ monthly lunchtime ‘Friday Forums’ throughout the year.
• Build broad coalitions to advocate for transportation choices. Past coalition efforts have included environmental groups, labor unions, businesses, advocates of people with disabilities, community organizations and public sector agencies.

• Maintain and aggressively build Transportation Choices' grassroots capacity in targeted districts.
• Organize events including Transportation Advocacy Day, election events/forums, and small community based fundraisers.
• Develop and manage field strategies for statewide and local campaigns including legislative, issue-based, and ballot measure campaigns.
• Oversee outreach to Transportation Choices’ members and field contacts via e-mail action alerts, mail and phone banks.
• Represent Transportation Choices at state and national field coalition meetings.
• Respond to citizen and member inquiries including policy, field, and volunteer requests.

• Collaborate with other staff on program and organizational strategy.
• Provide assistance raising funds from individuals and member organizations.
• Manage a number of e-mail list serves and work with the TCC webmaster on website content.
• Conduct media outreach, including letters to the editor, media outreach for local campaigns, and communications coordination for other TCC led coalitions.

Primary Qualifications:
• Experience developing and implementing grassroots campaign strategies.
• A self-starter who is comfortable working in a team environment, collaborating with coalition partners and working with volunteers.
• Demonstrated ability to prioritize, manage and coordinate multiple tasks.
• Flexibility and willingness to work evenings and weekends.
• Proficient computer skills including comfort with word processing, spreadsheets, databases, web and e-mail software.
• Persuasive public speaker.
• Strong writing, editing and presentation skills.

Secondary Qualifications
• Staff and/or volunteer management experience.
• Familiarity and interest in transportation, land use and/or related issues.
• Experience dealing with the media.
• Strategic planning experience.
• Fundraising experience.
• Experience with graphic design
