Development Program Coordinator

Position Summary
The Development Department of the World Resources Institute (WRI) is seeking a dynamic, energetic, highly motivated person to fill the position of Development Coordinator. This position will provide programmatic and administrative support to staff managing government sector partnerships and funding (including U.S. government, foreign aid agencies, and multilateral organizations). This position provides a valuable growth opportunity to learn about environment and development policy, institutional and fundraising strategy, and donor cultivation and stewardship. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced department with multiple projects, activities, and deadlines that require the ability to juggle competing priorities. S/he will be very detail-oriented, a quick study and possess excellent interpersonal skills.
Major responsibilities
Assist WRI’s Government Donor Sector staff with:
Research and Writing
 Drafting and editing proposals, reports, letters, and other documents
 Research and track government grant announcements, requests for proposals, bills, policy positions, using internet, print, and electronic sources. Identify potential overlap with WRI program areas
 Prepare related presentations and visual aids
Donor Stewardship and Outreach
 Manage mailing lists and coordinate stewardship of and outreach with government sector contacts
Coordination and Administrative support
 Provide general administrative support to both the Director of International Cooperation and the Director of U.S. Government Cooperation, i.e. scheduling meetings, meeting preparation and follow-up, arrange travel, prepare/submit expense reports, process invoices and check requests, and other administrative paperwork as needed
 Maintain and update donor information and contact in donor database (Raiser’s Edge)
 Update and maintain sector-relevant information on Development Department Wiki
 Backstop other department program coordinators as needed
 1-2 years of experience working in a fast-paced office environment (requirement may be met through internships)
 Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills
 Detail oriented, strong organizational skills, particularly the ability to prioritize and manage projects in a cooperative and proactive manner with other team members
 Strong analytical skills. Ability to sift through large amounts of data, and identify and analyze specific information relating to programmatic alignment and funding capacity is critical.
 Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines, while coordinating projects within a large cross-section of staff.
 Proficiency in MS Office required. Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge database a plus.
 A strong candidate will have experience in environmental issues, environmental policy, and/or international development. Experience working in a government setting a plus.
This is a fast paced, busy department in a well respected environment and development institution. This position will provide significant insight into and understanding about various aspects of institutional strategy, environment and development policy, and non-profit fundraising. It will also provide an opportunity to gain more in-depth knowledge about U.S. government, international aid agencies, and multilateral institutions. The Coordinator will also receive considerable exposure to the programs at WRI. He/She will have the opportunity to attend presentations, meetings, and brownbags with in-house and external experts working at the cutting edge of environment, development, and communications. The large number of interns and young staff present a fun working environment.
Salary and benefits
High $30s, commensurate with experience, excellent benefits.
