BACKGROUND & SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITY
The International Living Future Institute seeks an exceptional Development Director for a dynamic, fast-growing non-profit to oversee organization-wide fundraising efforts. The Institute’s mission is to lead and support the transformation toward communities that are socially just, culturally rich and ecologically restorative.

The successful candidate must exhibit a strong passion for the environment and the organization’s mission as a whole. He or she must have a demonstrated track record in developing and implementing programs for individual donors, corporate sponsors and grants. He or she will have excellent writing skills, and will be able to demonstrate those skills as a part of the application process. The ability to communicate clearly, effectively and concisely is imperative for this position in the organization. The Development Director is a key storyteller for the organization and should have a deep passion for our mission as well as a sophisticated network engaged in climate change solutions.

The Development Director’s role is to support and expand the Institute’s existing sponsorship, grant, and membership programs, while creating the infrastructure needed for a robust individual giving program. The Director will supervise the Development Coordinator and work closely with the program and outreach staff.

This job is full-time, exempt and typically 40 hours per week, but also requires some travel and occasional evenings and weekends.

Compensation is commensurate with experience and is supplemented by ILFI’s generous benefits package that includes health and dental insurance, Employee Life Insurance 403(b) retirement matching, three weeks of paid annual leave and 12 days annual sick leave.

DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES
• Initiate and develop new funder relationships and work with the program team and leadership team to generate new funding ideas. Write effective, successful grant proposals:
- Identify new foundation funding sources thru networking and relationship building.
- Draw on prior contacts at foundations and use those contacts to help build our foundation donor base.
- Maintain and deepen existing relationships with program officers
- Use past experience with foundation fundraising to broaden our foundation supporters and expand network of supporters and funders.
- Develop a grant tracking system that ensures grant deliverables are achieved and measured and integrated into the program team work plans.

• Lead the corporate sponsorship program
- Manage the Sponsorship Campaign including the database and process for implementing and assigning sponsors to staff.
- Analyze and continually improve corporate sponsor recruitment and stewardship strategies
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with industry leaders
- Inform leadership team and support their sponsor recruitment efforts
- Oversee the generation of the sponsorship prospectus working closely with the Communications team.

• Cultivate major donors
- Develop a donor base including building relationships with significant matching donor employers, and developing a donor contact list.
- Oversee associated major donor collateral development

• Expand existing individual membership program
- Oversee the overhaul and expansion of our individual membership program working loosely with the Outreach team.
- Engage members with our stories and impacts.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
• Bachelor’s degree (Masters degree preferred but not required)
• Minimum five years experience leading a fundraising program for a non-profit with an associated mission.
• An established network with the climate change solutions funders.
• Demonstrated ability to write eloquently and effectively
• Strong experience with all aspects of developing relationships with foundation, corporate and individual donors
• Excellent communication skills with demonstrated ability to write and speak persuasively
• Passion for and understanding of organizational mission
• Demonstrated connections with foundations, program officers, and the foundation community.
• Ability to embrace technology and database systems to track grants and create sponsorship campaigns.

Desirable:
• Experience with Mac operating system and related software
• Experience with Salesforce CRM database
• CFRE-certified
• Strong ties to Architecture / Engineering / Construction community in the Pacific Northwest and beyond
