Washington Trails Association seeks a temporary Development Associate to join our Development team. The Development Associate will ensure the integrity of WTA’s data and will provide excellent donor services to our amazing donor and member community. The Development Associate is responsible for accurate gift processing and professional donor communications. This position reports to the Membership Manager and collaborates with the Development Team and other program staff. This is a full-time, temporary position based in our downtown Seattle office. The expected term of the position is October 2017 through April 2018. The ideal candidate has a solutions-oriented, proactive attitude. They will contribute to the overall success of WTA by welcoming requests for support, tracking and meeting approaching deadlines, and suggesting improvements to systems and processes.

WTA is the largest statewide hiking organization in the country, serving a deeply-engaged community of 3 million people through our website, social channels and member magazine. Membership is at 15,000+ and over 4,000 volunteers support the trail program. Our advocacy, youth and outreach programs engage and empower hikers and educators of all interest levels and ages.

Major Responsibilities
Gift Processing (40%):

Enter and audit donations made to Washington Trails Association

* Verifying that donations and membership dues made online through wta.org are processed correctly

* Entering gifts made by check, workplace contributions and matching gifts into WTA’s database (Salesforce)

Donor contact management

* Ensuring integrity and accuracy of WTA’s database, including managing newly created contacts and cleaning duplicate records
* Assisting with the editing of overall user interface and layout of contact records
* Updating changes in donor contact information

Donor Relations (40%)
* Monitor incoming fundraising emails and provide timely feedback on any questions or concerns raised by members and donors
* Answer phone calls from members and donors and be comfortable with responding quickly to any questions or concerns
* Assist with the printing and mailing of donation acknowledgement letters
* Collaborate with Development volunteers to ensure timely delivery of acknowledgments

Other Responsibilities include but are not limited to (20%):
* Provide support and maintenance of Development activities; running reports, cleaning and exporting lists and supporting member/donor events and appeals
* Assist with other WTA events as needed (includes occasional nights and weekends).
* Attend and participate in WTA trainings, retreats, and other program events.
* Other duties may arise depending on Development Team needs and employee interest areas

Job skills, experience and personal traits preferred:
* Successful data entry and/or database management experience. Must be capable of efficient, accurate data entry with minimal supervisory oversight. Must be capable of repetitive data entry with high level of accuracy and consistency.
* Excellent attention to detail
* Proficiency with Microsoft Windows and Office
* Integrity, positive attitude, and sensitivity to the needs of members, donors and volunteers
* Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with people of diverse races, ages, genders, abilities and economic backgrounds. Prior cultural competency training is a plus.
* Ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues to complete tasks and help meet team/organization goals
* Ability to work independently to prioritize tasks and manage time
* High ethical standards and ability to maintain confidential information.

Compensation range is $16 - 18 per hour. Benefits include ORCA transit pass and sick leave.
