Position Overview
Associate Arborist for Consulting Arborist Group. This is a full-time position for those pursuing a career as a consulting arborist. Hours are flexible, but applicant must be available at least 4 weekdays, ideally from 9am-5pm. The position will be split approximately 50 percent office work / 50 percent field work depending on current jobs. Hourly wage is DOE.

Essential Job Functions
• Site visits: collect field data, including tree species, measurements, presence of insect and decay organisms & related conditions. Field work can include meeting with clients on site and discussing trees, ecology or plant functions with them. Field work will be solitary or with a team depending on the site and scope of work. Field work can include urban street trees, forested and undeveloped sites, and construction projects. Sites range from small urban lots to multi-acre parcels. Site visits and tree inspections can include tree climbing or ground support for an aerial inspection.
• Manage projects from initial site visit through delivery of final report. Includes regular phone and email correspondence and occasionally in-person meetings with architects, developers, property owners, neighbors, municipal arborists and planners.
• Read and modify topographical maps.
• Produce written reports documenting site conditions and tree assessments.
• Produce data tables, test results, mapping, etc.
• Research municipal codes and apply for permits on behalf of clients.
• Assist arborists with advanced testing equipment.
• Maintain cheerful & helpful attitude with all clients and co-workers.
• Maintain field manuals, equipment, filing, as is needed in a small office. We work as a team on every level.

Required Skills/Qualifications
• Bachelor’s Degree or Associate Degree with 2 years of relavant work experience.
• Minimum 2-3 years’ experience working in arboriculture, botany, ecology, forestry, or other related field. Excellent field observation skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Must have a valid driver’s license.
• Must be proficient with computers, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
• Must be detail-oriented & able to work independently.
• Must understand structure & content of the English language, including grammar & composition
• Must be physically able to complete field assessments in all types of weather & navigate uneven terrain, slopes, or heavy vegetation while carrying equipment weighing up to 30 pounds.
• Must have a positive attitude & desire to learn
• Must be able to work as part of a team, and independently.
• General knowledge of botanical taxonomy and plant species identification skills.
• Familiarity with field biology concepts such as observation, note-taking, & field sketching.
• Familiarity with concepts of ecological interdependencies & interactions between trees & the surrounding environment.
• Familiarity with the scientific method to solve problems.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications
• ISA Certified Arborist
• ISA Qualified Tree Risk Assessor – or ability to become qualified within 2 years.
• Tree or rock climbing skills, or the desire to learn how to climb trees.
• Washington State Pesticide Applicator License—or desire and ability to attain this certification
