SUMMARY

Northwest SEED creates communities powered by locally controlled clean energy. Our popular Solarize Northwest program helps communities go solar together through a group purchase process that save time and money for homeowners and small businesses.

Northwest SEED is looking for a motivated, energetic person to organize and coordinate workshops and outreach events related to our solar programs. Primary support will be for Solarize campaigns in Shoreline and Woodinville. As an integral member of the project team, the intern will work with staff to engage local residents through marketing, grassroots organizing, outreach event planning, creation of public education materials, and direct collaboration with program partners. The intern will develop skills in volunteer management, community organizing, and public speaking while gaining hands on experience in the clean energy sector. RESPONSIBILITIES

• Engage community volunteers in regular meetings to implement a grassroots outreach and marketing plan. Keep volunteers updated on events and volunteer opportunities.
• Assist with delivery of solar energy workshops and numerous outreach events.
• Research key media outlets and neighborhood news sources to promote Solarize campaigns.
• Assist with development of public messaging, outreach materials, press releases, and other documentation to support Solarize campaigns.
• Update the Solarize Washington website (www.solarizenw.org) throughout the campaigns.
• Manage social media outlets and develop social media messages for campaign partners.
• Respond to email and phone inquiries from program participants in a timely manner.
• Interview current and previous participants and create “Solar Stories” to include on the Solarize Northwest website.
• Track program participation levels, media response, and evaluate overall project process.

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND ABILITIES

Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
• Experience in event planning, tabling and community outreach
• Organized with strong attention to detail
• Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences
• Resourceful worker with a can-do attitude who is able to take initiative, follow-up and manage time efficiently
• Proficiency in MS Office and social media; familiarity with Salesforce, InDesign and/or WordPress (or other web design software) a plus
• Interest in clean energy issues and solar energy in particular
• Friendly and professional demeanor
• Experience in volunteer coordination a plus

BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION

This internship is based in Northwest SEED’s downtown office with a desired start date of early May, 2016. The intern must be available to work some nights and weekends. Minimum commitment of 15 hours per week, for a 4 month period is required. This is an unpaid internship with excellent opportunities to network and gain hands on experience working in the nonprofit sector with a team of clean energy experts. An additional stipended project may become available with similar activities and requirements.
