Position Title: Associate Scientist - Full time (40 hours/week)

EcoAdapt seeks an Associate Scientist to provide research, writing, and other support for multiple projects within our Adaptation Consultation and State of Adaptation programs. As part of our Adaptation Consultation program, the Associate Scientist will have an opportunity to engage with our federal partners to improve integration of climate considerations in resource management decision-making and develop innovative adaptation options for the future. As a member of our State of Adaptation program, you will have the chance to regularly engage with practitioners through interviews, case study and report writing, and outreach and engagement.

EcoAdapt is a non-profit organization headquartered on Bainbridge Island, WA that provides support, training, and assistance to help governments, organizations, and individuals figure out how to do what they do effectively even in the face of climate change. Our main objectives are to: (1) build the field of climate change adaptation by making adaptation capacity and resources more accessible; (2) build the capacity of current and future professionals in planning and management across sectors so they can engage in climate change adaptation; and (3) support implementation of adaptation strategies by providing capacity to partners eager to take climate adaptation action. Essential duties and responsibilities:
­ Conduct scientific literature reviews and analyses to improve understanding of climate change impacts and resource vulnerabilities, and generate options for adapting to potential impacts
­ Compile, analyze and clearly summarize narrative and data-based information from various sources
­ Write clear, concise content that effectively explains key concepts and findings for a variety of audiences
­ Edit, revise, and proofread written materials for technical reports and other documents
­ Translate complex, technical concepts from various primary research and planning documents into easily understood media (e.g., graphics and narratives)
­ Collaborate with senior staff to draft reports, documents, blogs, and interim findings
­ Represent EcoAdapt and our partners at meetings and conferences through giving large and small-group presentations
­ Accommodate national travel

Requested Professional and Personal Attributes
Successful candidates should ideally possess the following professional qualifications and personal attributes:
­ Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work fluidly within a project team
­ Highly motivated self-starter with excellent time management skills and the ability to work independently and effectively manage multiple demands and deadlines
­ Comfortable giving scientific presentations (both in-person and virtual) to technical and non-technical audiences
­ Motivated to creatively help solve climate-related challenges
­ English speaking and comprehension fluency
­ Ability to work from home (e.g., internet access, phone). Preference given to those with telecommuting experience.

Qualifications
Required skills/experience:
­ Bachelor’s degree with some relevant work experience or a Master’s degree in biology, ecology, natural resources, natural resource management or policy, conservation or related field. We will also consider applicants with a writing-related degree that have experience synthesizing and summarizing scientific concepts.
­ Strong technical writing skills
­ Familiarity with natural resource management and conservation
­ Education or training in climate-driven environmental change
­ Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and online collaborative workspaces and tools
­ Proven ability to work independently and as a team member with initiative, motivation, flexibility, and attention to the accuracy and timeliness of projects and tasks
