GRuB (Garden-Raised Bounty) is a nonprofit organization working to inspire positive personal and community change by bringing people together around food and agriculture. We do this by partnering with youth and low-income families to create empowering individual and community food solutions and by offering trainings, tools, and resources to help build a just and sustainable food system.

GRuB is at an exciting time of growth. We’re looking for a VISTA member to enhance our blossoming Volunteer Program and further expand our capacity to engage with youth, volunteers, and gardeners in our four core programmatic areas: the Kitchen Garden Project, GRuB School, Pollination, and Volunteers.
• The Kitchen Garden Project supports food insecure households to become home-food producers and create neighborhood food solutions.
• GRuB School provides credit-based, alternative education to struggling high school students.
• Pollination shares our successful youth development model with other communities.
• Volunteers provide critical support to all of our programs by building gardens, working on our farm, teaching our students how to cook healthy meals, teaching gardening and food preservation skills to new gardeners, and participating in stakeholder committees and our board to guide our work forward.

The VISTA Volunteer Coordinator will further build our capacity to recruit and integrate these valuable volunteers into our day-to-day operations and cultivate community leaders.

Major responsibilities include:
The VISTA member will lead the continued development and operation of our growing Volunteer Program including:
• Integrating Volunteer Program practices into overall operations including risk assessment, policy development, and tool refinement to increase long-term volunteer engagement and retention
• Collaborating with staff to integrate stakeholder cultivation strategies and formalize leadership development cycles into the Volunteer Program
• Working with the Development Team to identify long-term resources to sustain the Program
• Assessing whether the Volunteer Outreach Plan is meeting the organizational goal to have a volunteer base reflecting the demographics of GRuB’s constituents
• Assessing and amending the Volunteer Outreach Plan as needed to increase volunteer recruitment from target audiences
• Establishing and/or deepening relationships with community partners and institutions to increase diversity of volunteers
• Developing an annual program budget
• Developing and implementing a Volunteer Appreciation Plan

• 18 years old or older (by August 25, 2014), high school equivalency
• Mature, outgoing, highly collaborative while also able to complete projects independently
• Strong communication, organization, facilitation, and tech skills
• Experience with databases a plus
• Highly motivated and positive problem solver.
• Able to take a goal/project and lead it to completion
• Previous experience with volunteer programs and nonprofit work preferred
