Bainbridge Graduate Institute - Director of Financil Aid

POSITION TITLE: Director of Financial Aid

REPORTS TO: Director of Operations

SUMMARY: The Director of Financial Aid works directly for the Director of Operations in the administration and coordination of institutional financial aid at Bainbridge Graduate Institute (BGI). This position also manages the school’s preparation for and application to participate in federal student aid, including leading a team of staff in determining and understanding eligibility requirements (institutional, program, administrative and fiscal), creating all policies, procedures and systems in order to deliver these programs in accordance with federal and state regulations.

PROCESSES: The Director processes student aid applications to determine financial aid eligibility and packages awards. The Director meets with the Director of Operations (at the very least) on a bi – weekly basis.

BUDGET: No budgetary responsibility.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Other duties may be assigned.)
• Oversee day-to-day operations of the Financial Aid Office
• Prepare the institution for Title IV funding
• Oversee the completion of the Title IV application process
• Assist prospective/current students in completing institutional aid applications
• Ensure that participating students understand institutional aid policies and that they return aid contracts
• Verify the accuracy of information on student financial aid applications
• Resolve conflicting information related to student files
• Maintain contact with current and prospective students
• Maintain student financial aid records
• Develop and maintain policy and procedure manual
• Develop and maintain Institutional Grant and Scholarship Programs
• Develop and maintain financial aid forms and informational materials
• Develop, update and present financial aid information through the website, literature, presentations, and web conferences
• Ensure compliance with federal and state regulations
• Serve as "super-user" for institution-wide computer operating system
• Maintain financial aid database
• Perform professional judgment as it relates to the Financial Aid Office
• Attend and participate in professional groups, seminars and/or courses, and conferences
• Work with the Director of Operations to develop financial aid strategy

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
• Completion of Bachelors degree
• One to three years experience in financial aid function at a college, university or private school
• Knowledge of FERPA and federal, state, and/or institutional financial aid program rules, regulations, or processes is highly desirable
• A very high attention to detail, organization and follow-up
• A natural ability for establishing interpersonal rapport and relating to individuals from a wide range of backgrounds and cultures
• Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data and to use independent judgment where appropriate
• Commitment to continuous quality improvement and customer service
• An interest in sustainability
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORKING ENVIRONMENT:
• Work in office setting
• Work hours somewhat flexible, but it is expected that this person will be present in BGI offices 5 days/week. Some evening and weekend hours required
• Will hold set office hours at IslandWood during MBA intensives
