Environmental DNA Techniques for Biological Assessment
presented by Cramer Fish Sciences and Genidaqs

Join your fellow environmental professionals for a free, informational, brown bag "lunch and learn" presentation about how new environmental DNA (eDNA) and genetics can be important tools for environmental professionals.

Rapid technical advancements in population genetics and molecular biology are providing many novel, relatively low cost techniques and technologies that are applicable and powerful tools for biologists. These technical advancements can be applied to refine information about the presence/absence of cryptic organisms, geographic and seasonal distributions, and community structure. Environmental DNA approaches also have the advantage of generally not requiring study permits, as the methods do not directly interact with target organisms.

Gregg Schumer and Scott Blankenship from Cramer Fish Sciences and Genidaqs will provide attendees with a brief introduction to molecular diagnostics procedures and discuss practical applications in both aquatic and terrestrial environments. Presentation is intended to provide environmental services and regulatory professionals with a general understanding of current eDNA capabilities and recommended uses.
