Get ready to travel at Christmas time….without the hassle of airports or packing! And it’s FREE! The Seattle First Baptist Church Christmas concerts celebrate music from all the Americas in Love Across Borders. From the Huron Carol—perhaps the earliest carol text written in North America—to Hanacpachap cussicuinin—the earliest known carol from Peru—the concert explores what we have in common in our music: the wonder and excitement at the birth of the Prince of Peace. That love, indeed, crosses all borders. The Sanctuary Choir is accompanied by Andean musicians for the infectious Navidad Nuestra, a six-movement work based on rhythms from the Andes. We will dance to the calypso beat of The Virgin Mary had a Baby Boy. And there are favorites from a wide variety of historic U.S. traditions—the haunting I Wonder As I Wander from Appalachia, the African American spirituals Go, Tell it on the Mountain and Mary Had a Baby and It Came Upon a Midnight Clear, a carol written in response to the Mexican American War. Modern offerings include The Little Drummer Boy and what is considered the classic American choral work of the last 25 years, O Magnum Mysterium, by Morten Lauridsen, a resident of Waldron Island, WA. Help us spread love across borders by inviting your friends and family. The concerts are FREE while professional childcare is provided plus limited parking.
