Volunteer patrols form a central part of our effort to monitor pollution and prevent debris from reaching the Sound. Soundkeeper is out on the water each week at various locations around Elliott Bay. While on patrol, we keep an eye out for abnormal discharges from stormwater pipes and combined sewer overflows. Along the way, volunteers will learn about the history of Seattle’s industrial development and view our waterways from a unique perspective. Check out our reoccurring patrol opportunities!

Wednesday Morning Kayak Patrols, Lake Union. Our kayak patrol occurs most Wednesday mornings from 10:00am – 12:00pm on Lake Union, where we patrol for pollution and pick up marine debris. Kayaks are free to volunteers thanks to our partnership with the Northwest Outdoor Center. To sign up, email Michelle at [email protected].

Boat Patrols, Duwamish River. We welcome volunteers to come aboard our boat to learn about the Duwamish River and patrol the waterway for signs of pollution. Check our events page for specific dates; we are often out Fridays from 10:00am – 1:30pm. To sign up, email Michelle at [email protected].
