THE OCTOBER 2011 GREENDRINKS WILL BE ON TUESDAY, 11 OCTOBER AND WILL BE HOSTED BY BECU. The event will take place at Seattle City Hall.

BECU recognizes that strong communities depend on a healthy environment—that is why we are so pleased to be partnered with Seattle Greendrinks! Read BECU's 2009 Sustainability Report to learn more about their free paperless banking options and employee commuting programs as examples of how they’re changing their practices to make a positive impact.

Your money deserves the benefits that only a not-for-profit credit union can provide. Instead of continuing to lose money to high fees at big banks, you’ll receive money for making the smart switch. BECU will give as much as $75 when Greendrinkers take advantage of new member offers. Earn the first $25 for opening a checking and savings account, an additional $25 for being approved for a Visa or Line of Credit, and a final $25 for opening an additional loan or deposit account.

Sign up at the October Greendrinks event or visit the BECU web page at: http://www.becu.org/join.aspx. Be sure to enter the Promotional Code: GREEN75.

The featured non-profit will be Food Day. Food Day 2011 will be celebrated on (and around) October 24, 2011 with groups from coast-to-coast creating and participating in fun events encouraging Americans to “eat real” and support healthy, affordable food grown in a sustainable, humane way. This is Seattle Greendrinks's Food Day event, which has three broad goals: to raise awareness and educate the public about food issues; to improve food policies on local, state, and federal levels; and to strengthen the food movement, giving a unique platform to groups that work on relevant issues. Food Day is supported by the City of Seattle and Mayor Mike McGinn, who is on the National Advisory Board for Food Day. For more information, visit www.FoodDay.org, or contact Food Day West Coast Coordinator Deborah Gardner.

The October Greendrinks will take place at City Hall, at 600 5th Ave, in downtown Seattle. The event will begin at 6pm.

As usual, we will be collecting a $5 suggested donation at the door that will be split between our featured non-profit and Seattle Greendrinks. Click here to plan your trip to the event using Metro's Trip Planner.

Go SMALL! Join people you don't know at a Green Lunch. Seriously. Join a small group of Greendrinkers for lunch on 14 October 2011 by signing up here.

Here's a huge shout-out, too, to our 2011 sponsors, The Sierra Nevada Brewing Co, Tonnemaker Family Orchard, Badger Mountain Vineyard, The Essential Baking Company, and Chaco Canyon Cafe! The October Greendrinks will begin between at 6pm.

Please help us reduce waste - even compostable waste - by bringing your own mugs, wine glasses, and the like. Compostable cups will be available for a $5 suggested donation.

Finally, please email info (at) seattlegreendrinks (dot) org for sponsorship information or to volunteer.
