What: Global Work Party event - Maple School (Ravine) Natural Area Invasive Species Removal & Native Planting
First we will work at removing invasive plant species and laying mulch for native planting (planting will happen on 11/6/10 during Green Seattle Day), then we will PARTY with refreshments, music, speakers, and more!

When: Sunday 10/10/10, time 10:00am-2:00pm

Where: Street end at 20th Avenue S. & S. Lucile Street in Seattle, WA - south Beacon Hill area, near Cleveland High School; land owned by Seattle Parks Department

Why: This 13-acre greenbelt was acquired by Seattle Parks in 2002. The wooded ravine is located in a historically underserved neighborhood of Seattle. Restoration efforts will continue to jumpstart local pride and enthusiasm for creating a healthy urban forest as well as a safe and welcoming urban trail passageway between Beacon Hill and the local neighborhoods, businesses, churches, and schools. Efforts by EOS Alliance and Green Seattle Partnership to date have already made a significant positive impact with several acres now in restoration.

How: YOU just show up! Refreshments, gloves, and tools provided.

Event Host: EOS Alliance is a non-profit environmental organization that provides professional, environmental training courses throughout the U.S. We are also very involved in habitat restoration, environmental education, and residential energy auditing here in Seattle. www.eosalliance.org. The Green Seattle Partnership is a unique public/private partnership between the City of Seattle and the Cascade Land Conservancy. "Creating a sustainable network of healthy forested parklands throughout Seattle, supported by an aware, engaged community." http://greenseattle.org/
