The Mountains to Sound Greenway Trust is sponsoring two 10.5-month Education Associate AmeriCorps positions through the Washington Service Corps, a program of the Washington State Employment Security Department. The Education Associates are an integral part of the Greenway Trust’s highly effective team that works to further land conservation, recreation connections, and public engagement across the Greenway landscape in balance with a growing regional population.

POSITION SUMMARY
The Education Associates play an essential role within the Greenway Trust by teaching 4th-12th grade students in the classroom, leading field study trips, and facilitating volunteer restoration events. This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about teaching and the natural world, and who is adaptable and organized.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
 Routinely refer to Member Service Agreement requirements
 Ability to serve at project site location and time specified in this position description
 Fall and Spring: Teach classroom lessons, lead field study trips, and facilitate service-learning stewardship events.
 Winter: Co-facilitate weekend volunteer events for youth and adults and teaching volunteers about various topics (refer to ‘Location and Schedule’) and support other Greenway Trust efforts in the Snoqualmie Valley, Middle Fork, and Upper Yakima Basin.
 Summer: Collaborate with Greenway staff and partners to help plan and lead a 6-week summer high
school internship program.

ADDITIONAL DUTIES
 Represent the Greenway Trust at special events.
 Manage the distribution, collection, and scoring of pre- and post-program student assessments.
 Communicate with teachers about their upcoming programming.
 Mail teaching materials to our school partners.
 Assist in tracking program metrics in the Greenway Trust’s Salesforce database.
 Assist in updating existing and developing new curriculum and education materials.
 Assist in managing the Greenway Trust’s photo library.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 A combination of experience and education that demonstrates an ability to teach a diverse group of
students both in and out of the classroom: Bachelor’s degree in natural sciences, teaching, or related
field and two years of formal or informal teaching experience.
 Ability to hike several miles, and serve outdoors, in all weather conditions.
 Strong written and oral communication skills and detail-oriented organizational skills.
 Certified Wilderness First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain.
 Basic computer skills, including familiarity with Microsoft Office suite.
 Valid driver’s license with insurable driving record.
 Must provide own reliable transportation to sites across King County.
 Willingness to store teaching materials at home.
 Must be a U.S. citizen, national or lawful permanent resident alien.
 Must successfully pass a criminal history background check.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS
 Knowledge of Pacific Northwest ecosystems, flora and fauna.

Tilth Alliance seeks an experienced, visionary leader to work with our partners, Board, staff, and members to help take our organization to a new level of programmatic and financial success. The recent merger of our three organizations, Tilth Producers, Seattle Tilth and Cascade Harvest Coalition, and subsequent leadership changes, has led the Board to examine and re-define our strategic direction. Our ideal candidate is a collaborative, get-work-done, strategic thinker, with a background in complex non-profit management and an understanding of Washington’s food system and its players.
Tilth Alliance is committed to working in partnership with a broad array of organizations to help cultivate a sustainable and equitable food system in Washington State. The executive director is responsible for helping the Board clarify and refine the strategic direction, implementing Board policies, ensuring organizational integrity, managing staff and daily operations, and helping to build alliances with others doing similar work. To this end, we are looking for someone who can cultivate positive relationships among agricultural producers, consumers, gardeners, cooks, educators, environmental advocates, donors, and funders to address actions and policies to build a healthier food system.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors and is responsible for leadership, resource development, and fiscal and operations oversight.

Leadership
Provide strategic and operational leadership to define and realize the goals and objectives of Tilth Alliance
Develop and implement strategic and operating plans for both the short-term and long-range
Serve as a spokesperson on behalf of Tilth Alliance to engage, enable, and build mutually beneficial partnerships with others in the food community, and to develop innovative partnerships with influential individuals and other entities
Foster a culture of inclusivity with engagement across diverse cultures and communities

Resource Development
Set and establish means to measure annual fundraising goals
Provide ideas and approaches to build a resource base that supports the ongoing work of Tilth Alliance
Engage key donors, members, and funders in the work of the organization to attract and sustain needed resources

Operations and Fiscal Oversight
Optimize organizational structure and systems for efficient operations and to promote accountability
Oversee preparation of an annual budget and implement sound financial management practices to ensure organizational resiliency
Provide mentoring and guide professional development of staff to enhance their development along with the organization’s

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
7+ years nonprofit executive leadership including working with a Board of Directors (some years in other leadership roles may be substituted)
Demonstrated ability to manage and sustain a complex budget of greater than $1-4M/annually
Proven success in executing fundraising and donor relations strategies
Proven success in managing complex business operations and systems
5+ years of staff management and development experience, including employee evaluation
