Join WSRA for our last WRED event of the summer! Come hear from experts about the future of paper and corrugate recycling, how Starbucks sees the cup recycling landscape nationally, and what the impact and outcome of China’s Green Fence Initiative might mean for the future of fibers and other recyclables. Learn from a panel of recycling commodities experts from local MRFs and gain insights to their challenges with processing and where opportunities exist, and then tour SP Recycling, a regional MRF that is integrated with a paper mill. This is part one of a two-part fiber WRED event series.

As our cities expand and population grows, the need for urban green space is greater than ever. Yet a vast expanse is sitting right above our heads, unused and unloved. By replanting our rooftops, we can reduce the urban heat island effect, sequester rainfall to reduce the strain on drainage sys- tems, scrub the air of pollutants and CO2, and provide respite from city noise.

Title: 5th Annual Ballard Edible Garden Tour
Who: Sustainable Ballard invites you to a self-guided walking / biking tour of food gardens in the central area of Ballard.
What: Be inspired! Check out your neighbors’ gardens. This walking or biking tour provides examples of creative uses of parking strips, containers, raised beds, chicken coops, fruit trees, berries, bees and more! Meet the gardeners and ask questions. The tour includes a dozen gardens to explore within walking distance of Trinity United Methodist Church and Salmon Bay School.
Be entered into a Raffle of gardening books, supplies & Fiskars tools.
Get your gardening questions answered by local NW gardening authors.
When: Saturday June 29, 2013, 10am - 3pm.
Where: Buy your ticket/map at the parking lot west of Trinity United Methodist Church, 6512 23rd Ave NW, on the day of the tour.
Cost: $10 (kids are free) supports Sustainable Ballard's community projects.

Join green prefab home builders Method Homes as we open our factory doors in Ferndale, Wash. for a behind the scenes look at the modular building process.

Visitors will get to see Method's newest projects, including a special sneak preview of the new Paradigm I designed by Bogue Trondowski Architects, a deeply sustainable prototype that will be showcased at USGBC's Greenbuild conference in San Francisco. Other special projects in the works include a world class ski lodge and a cabin retreat.
