Second Use’s spring workshop series continues with a garden gates workshop Sunday, April 7, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Second Use’s manager and resident landscaping expert, Dave Lacey, will lead the workshop. Guests will see examples of gates built from Second Use materials, learn how to build a salvaged gate themselves, figure out how to install it, and get ideas for creative landscaping in general.

On Saturday, June 23, Sustainable Ballard is hosting the 4th Annual Edible Garden Tour of northeast Ballard food gardens. Their goal is to, “educate and inspire folks to grow food by giving examples of creative uses of parking strips, containers, raised beds, bee houses, chicken coops, fruit trees & berries and more.” Participants will have a chance to meet the gardeners and ask questions. The tour includes about a dozen gardens to explore, all within walking distance of the Whittier Elementary School (1320 NW 75th St.).

It's that time again! Colin McCrate, co-founder of Seattle Urban Farm Co and co-author of Food Grown Right, In Your Backyard, will be leading tours each Wednesday of the rooftop garden at Bastille Cafe & Bar in Ballard. The garden has been featured in Bon Appetit magazine as one of the 10 best roof-to-table spots in the country, and includes herbs, tomatoes, greens and even beehives. Tickets are $10 and include a seasonal rooftop-inspired cocktail.
