Take Sustainable Ballard's 9th annual self-guided walking / biking tour of twelve-plus Ballard urban farms and food gardens. The tour features many creative ways to grow food in urban spaces, including the use of parking strips, containers and raised beds; easy to construct chicken coops and bee houses; many varieties of fruit trees, berry bushes and edible ground covers, in addition to your traditional garden bed. Meet gardeners and ask questions; learn from their experience. Your $10 entry fee goes to support Sustainable Ballard's community projects.

On Saturday, June 23, Sustainable Ballard is hosting the 4th Annual Edible Garden Tour of northeast Ballard food gardens. Their goal is to, “educate and inspire folks to grow food by giving examples of creative uses of parking strips, containers, raised beds, bee houses, chicken coops, fruit trees & berries and more.” Participants will have a chance to meet the gardeners and ask questions. The tour includes about a dozen gardens to explore, all within walking distance of the Whittier Elementary School (1320 NW 75th St.).

Harvest for the hungry with City Fruit!
Help City Fruit harvest unused fruit from residential trees in Phinney-Greenwood and donate it to people in need. Each work party will take 1-4 hours, and opportunities are available daytime, evening and weekends in July-September. This is a family-friendly opportunity!
