In October of 2011, environmental activist Dillon Thomson is taking to the road for a grassroots speaking tour across the United States. Having worked as an activist for over four years, Dillon has seen firsthand the sluggishness of the environmental movement. Responding to the alarming indicators of ecological collapse, Dillon will travel to colleges, community centers, and family rooms throughout the United States to tap the already-existing frustration and organize an international movement committed to protecting life on the planet.
Join Net Impact as we bring our 19th annual conference to Portland, Oregon and discuss changing the world through business with 2,600 of our members and community friends. Together, the world's most effective changemakers and most promising leaders will explore:
* Where creative problem solving and playful approaches can lead to serious solutions
* Where sustainable innovations were championed by those you least expect
* Where unlikely partnerships accelerate change

For people such as those who live in Kivalina, an Inupiat community in Arctic Alaska, climate change is not theoretical. University of California researcher/journalist Christine Shearer, who works with CoalSwarm and SourceWatch, investigates the story of climate refugees and their ongoing legal struggles against fossil fuel companies for their part in greenhouse gas emission, and the creation of false debates about climate change in her compelling book, Kivalina: A Climate Change Story (Haymarket Books).
